Google has released the April 2025 software update for the Pixel Watch series, including the Pixel Watch, Pixel Watch 2, and Pixel Watch 3. Built on Wear OS 5.1 and Android 15, the update brings several feature enhancements and system-level improvements, with the security patch dated March 5, 2025.

Scam Detection Now Available on Pixel Watch 2 and 3

One of the key highlights is real-time scam detection, now available on Pixel Watch 2 and 3 when paired with a Pixel 9 phone. Using on-device AI, the system analyzes spoken words during phone calls for signs of fraud. If suspicious phrases are detected, the watch notifies the user through vibration and on-screen alerts.

This feature is currently limited to the United States and supports only the English language. Both the phone and the watch must be within Bluetooth range for effective scam detection.

Loss of Pulse Detection Rolling Out to Pixel Watch 3

Another safety feature added in this update is loss of pulse detection. This is only available on Pixel Watch 3 in the United States. The watch keeps an eye on your heart rate. If it can’t find a pulse and you don’t respond, it can automatically call emergency services for help. This feature is optional, and you need to turn it on manually.

It’s not a medical device, but it can help in serious situations by getting you help faster.

Fixes for Notification Delays and System Improvements

The update also addresses previously reported issues related to delayed notifications. While no new features are added to the original Pixel Watch, users may notice smoother performance and better synchronization as a result of backend system optimizations.

How the New Features Work

  • Scam Detection: Requires a Pixel Watch 2 or 3 paired with a Pixel 9 phone. This feature listens for common scam language during phone calls. If something suspicious is detected, the watch alerts the user without interrupting the call.
  • Loss of Pulse Detection: Available on Pixel Watch 3 only. If the watch detects no heartbeat and the user doesn’t respond, it initiates an emergency call using either the paired phone or its built-in LTE (if supported).

Users can enable both features through the watch’s safety and health settings. Scam detection is available immediately, while loss-of-pulse detection is being gradually rolled out.

Pixel Watch 3 Pricing in the U.S.

In the United States, the Pixel Watch 3 is priced as follows:

  • 41mm Wi-Fi model: $349.99
  • 45mm Wi-Fi model: $399.99
  • LTE variants: Starting at $399.99

Models are available through the Google Store, Amazon, Best Buy, and major U.S. carriers. Occasional promotions may offer discounts up to $50 on select models.

The April 2025 update highlights Google's continued effort to improve both safety and everyday performance across its Pixel Watch lineup. By adding real-time scam detection and emergency health alerts like loss of pulse detection, the update brings meaningful features that can assist users in critical situations. These additions aim to make the smartwatch experience more responsive and supportive in real-life scenarios. However, not all features are available everywhere or on all models. Some require specific hardware, while others are limited to certain regions like the United States. Users should ensure their devices are updated and check their watch settings to confirm compatibility before using these new tools.
