Anthropic, the AI powerhouse behind the fast-growing Claude models, is turbocharging its global ambitions. In a bold move, the company announced it will triple its international workforce and expand its applied AI team fivefold by the end of the year, a direct response to soaring demand for Claude outside the United States.
Fueled by a $13 billion fundraise and now boasting a whopping $183 billion valuation, Anthropic’s momentum is striking. The company’s annual revenue run rate ballooned from $1 billion in January to over $5 billion by August 2025. Claude’s user base also exploded, swelling from fewer than 1,000 global businesses two years ago to more than 300,000 today. International users now drive nearly 80% of Claude’s consumption, with places like South Korea, Australia, Singapore, and India leading the charge on per capita engagement.
Key European tech hubs are central to Anthropic’s plans, with over 100 new roles opening in Dublin, London, and a research dedicated Zurich branch. Beyond Europe, Anthropic’s first Asian outpost will launch in Tokyo, an indicator of how vital the region has become in the global AI arms race. India is a focal point too; already Claude’s largest overseas market by user numbers, it now accounts for 7.2% of global activity. Yet, the company sees vast untapped potential, given the relatively low per capita usage compared to the country’s huge working age population.
Anthropic’s international push is led by Chris Ciauri, a veteran from Google and Salesforce, as Managing Director of International. He’s joined by a newly beefed-up executive team, including recent hire Paul Smith as Chief Commercial Officer. The group is tasked with rolling out Claude across key global markets, cementing enterprise partnerships, and expanding the AI’s real-world applications.
The secret to Claude’s explosive growth? Its prowess with business-critical tasks, especially coding, a feature that sets it apart in regions like India, where more than half of Claude’s interactions involve coding projects. This sustained surge hasn’t gone unnoticed by enterprise giants. Microsoft just inked a partnership to integrate Claude into its Copilot offering, signaling a broader rethink of its generative AI strategy and reliance on OpenAI.
Anthropic isn’t operating in a vacuum. OpenAI, Google, and Meta are all amplifying their presence in India and Asia, targeting localized offerings and developer-friendly pricing. OpenAI, for example, will debut its first India office in New Delhi, betting that the country could soon top its global user charts.
Anthropic’s hiring spree and tech expansion paint a picture of a company refusing to coast on momentum. Instead, it’s gearing up for a globe-spanning race in deep learning innovation and enterprise deployment, a race in which India and Asia are quickly shifting from future opportunity to present priority.
