Apple is planning a major upgrade to Siri, aiming to turn it into a voice-first app operator by spring 2026. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the update centers on an improved version of App Intents, Apple’s framework that allows Siri to control actions inside apps using only spoken commands.
The company is testing the feature with various apps, including Uber, AllTrails, Threads, Temu, Amazon, YouTube, Facebook, and WhatsApp. Users could ask Siri to complete multi-step tasks like finding, editing, and sending photos, commenting on social media posts, or adding items to a shopping cart, all without touching their device.
Unlike current versions, the new Siri will interact directly with app interfaces. That means it could scroll through a shopping app, pick items, add them to the cart, and perform other in-app actions that currently require manual navigation.
Apple first teased its AI-powered assistant improvements at WWDC 2024. The launch, once planned for iOS 18, is now expected with iOS 26.4 in spring 2026. The company is working with major app developers to ensure smooth integration, but Bloomberg reports ongoing challenges, especially with sensitive apps like health and banking, where Apple is likely to impose strict limits or block certain commands altogether.
If it works as intended, the revamped Siri could set the iPhone apart from competitors by offering more powerful, context-aware voice control than Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa. Still, the final quality will depend on continued testing and developer support ahead of release.
