OpenAI Launches ChatGPT App Integrations

by Sakshi Dhingra - 12 hours ago - 2 min read

OpenAI has introduced a major upgrade that allows ChatGPT to connect directly with popular apps and online services. The update is powered by a new framework called the Apps SDK, which enables developers to integrate their platforms into ChatGPT.

This change shifts ChatGPT from being just a conversational assistant to a tool that can help users complete real-world tasks across multiple services.

Popular Apps Now Connect With ChatGPT

Several well-known platforms are already part of the initial ecosystem. These include:

  1. Spotify for music and playlist creation
  2. Uber for ride bookings
  3. DoorDash and Uber Eats for food delivery
  4. Booking.com and Expedia for travel planning
  5. Canva and Figma for design and creative work
  6. Coursera and Quizlet for learning and education

By connecting these apps, ChatGPT can assist users in moving from planning to action without switching between multiple platforms.

How Users Can Activate These Integrations

Users can trigger connected apps directly within the conversation.

For example, someone could ask ChatGPT to create a playlist in Spotify or check ride availability through Uber. ChatGPT can also suggest apps automatically when it detects relevant context, such as recommending travel services when discussing a vacation.

All linked services are managed through a new “Apps and Connectors” section inside ChatGPT settings.

Security and Account Protection

To protect user accounts, OpenAI is using OAuth authentication, the same secure login system used by many major online platforms.

This means users sign in directly through the app provider, ensuring that ChatGPT does not store or access personal passwords.

What This Means for the Future of AI

Industry observers believe this update could significantly change how people interact with software.

Instead of opening different apps individually, users may increasingly rely on AI assistants like ChatGPT to coordinate tasks across services from a single interface.

If the ecosystem continues to expand, ChatGPT could evolve into a central digital hub for daily activities, from travel planning to creative work and productivity.
