Monthly Price Surge Hits from September

Spotify announced a Premium Individual fee increase across South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific. Starting September, the cost will jump from €10.99 to €11.99 per month. Customers should expect an email with details about these changes before their next billing cycle.

Behind the Hike: Balancing Profits and Losses

Spotify’s decision follows earlier price bumps and reductions in spending that allowed the company to secure its first-ever annual profit in 2024. Still, Spotify logged a quarterly loss this year, blamed on higher employee tax expenses. These increases have led the company to caution investors about profits for the near future.

More Than Music: Spotify Banks on Podcasters and Audiobooks

Spotify is no longer just a music streamer. It’s ramping up video content, thanks to its Partner Program, which helps creators monetize their shows. That push has led to 7 million podcasts on the platform, with more than 430,000 being video podcasts. Subscribers can also pick from over 350,000 audiobooks, broadening Spotify’s appeal.

New Rules, New Moves: U.S. Market Momentum

Spotify just gained a boost in the United States after Apple allowed its updated app, which includes subscription prices and links to pay outside Apple’s system. This followed a court order banning Apple from taking a cut of off-app transactions. CEO Daniel Ek said Spotify saw a “very positive uptick” from these changes. Similar rules in Europe and the UK are under discussion and could provide further benefits to Spotify and its rivals.

Spotify’s Workforce and Spotify’s Next Phase

With 7,309 staff worldwide as of June 2025, Spotify is investing in new content and features as it responds to changing costs, regulations, and big competition in digital entertainment.
