Editorial disclosure: This is a research-based comparison. It is based on official pricing pages, feature documentation, privacy policies, safety information and product support pages checked on August 1, 2026. It does not claim that we conducted a controlled hands-on test of response quality, image accuracy or memory performance.
Promptchan AI and OurDream AI now offer many of the same headline features. Both let adults create AI characters, hold roleplay conversations, generate images and produce AI videos.
That makes a conventional feature checklist surprisingly unhelpful.
The meaningful difference is how those features are organised.
Promptchan is primarily a visual-creation studio that has expanded into AI companionship. OurDream is primarily a companion and roleplay platform that has expanded into visual creation.
That distinction influences character creation, media generation, pricing and the way users are likely to move through each product.
Choose Promptchan AI when your main goal is to generate, remix and animate character visuals with greater control over styles, poses, prompts and composition.
Choose OurDream AI when your main goal is to create a persistent character, maintain longer conversations and generate images or videos around that same companion.
Promptchan is also the more conventional mobile option because it officially supports web, iOS and Android. OurDream currently operates through the browser and can be added to a phone’s home screen, but it does not offer a standalone mobile app.
| Decision area | Better fit | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Image experimentation | Promptchan | More emphasis on styles, negative prompts, pose control, cloning and remixing |
| Persistent companion experience | OurDream | Character-led product with longer-context positioning |
| Native mobile access | Promptchan | Available through web, iOS and Android |
| Browser-based roleplay | OurDream | Companion creation and chat are central to the experience |
| Community image exploration | Promptchan | Public gallery with more than 20 million advertised creations |
| Character-centred multimedia | OurDream | Images, video, voice and memory remain attached to the companion |
| Entry-level paid price | Promptchan | Plus begins at $14.99 per month |
| Lower effective annual subscription | OurDream | $119.88 annually, equal to $9.99 per month |
| Full Promptchan feature access | Promptchan Pro | Custom characters, voice calls and full-length video are Pro features |
| Published safety transparency | OurDream | More detailed public documentation on moderation and data handling |
These conclusions are more useful than an overall score because the two products optimise different parts of the experience.
Let’s not overcomplicate this.
When you open Promptchan AI, everything pushes you toward creation. The interface, the explore section, the prompts, it all encourages you to generate something new again and again.

It feels like a loop:
you try → you get output → you try again.
With OurDream AI, the flow is completely different. You don’t jump between outputs. You stay with one character, one interaction, and build on it.

That’s not just a design choice, it’s the core philosophy of the product.
To make that difference clearer, look at this:
| Aspect | Promptchan AI | OurDream AI |
| Core Direction | Creation-first | Interaction-first |
| User Behavior | Explore & generate | Stay & engage |
| Product Feel | Tool | Platform |
When I first used Promptchan, the response was immediate.
You type something, and within seconds, you get a result that feels usable. That speed creates confidence. It feels like you’ve found a shortcut.
And because it’s so fast, you don’t stop at one output. You try another, then another.
But after some time, you notice something subtle.
The experience doesn’t deepen, it just repeats.
With OurDream, the start is slower.
There’s no instant “wow” moment.
But after a few conversations, things begin to connect. The AI remembers things, responses feel more consistent, and the interaction starts to feel less like a tool and more like something continuous.
That’s where it flips.
Promptchan gives you instant engagement.
OurDream gives you gradual attachment.
Instead of guessing, let’s look at real numbers from public platforms.
| Platform Data | Promptchan AI | OurDream AI |
| Trustpilot Rating | ~4.0 / 5 | ~4.2 / 5 |
| Total Reviews | 67+ | 99+ |
| App Store Rating | 4.2 / 5 (800+ ratings) | Limited visible data |
Now here’s the interesting part.
Promptchan has strong app ratings, which usually means users enjoy quick sessions.
OurDream has more review volume and slightly higher consistency, which usually signals longer-term usage.
That aligns perfectly with how the products behave.
Pricing is not just about cost, it reflects how a tool expects you to use it.
Promptchan doesn’t clearly push a single flat model. Instead, it leans toward credits or gems. That means every action has a cost attached to it.
This naturally leads to shorter, more controlled usage.
OurDream does the opposite.
It offers a clear subscription structure, and once you’re inside, you don’t think about each action individually.
Here’s how that looks in data form:
| Pricing Factor | Promptchan AI | OurDream AI |
| Model | Credit-based | Subscription |
| Monthly Cost | ~$5–$10 (variable) | $19.99 |
| Annual Plan | Not clearly defined | $119.88/year |
| Usage Feel | Pay-per-action | Unlimited experience |
So the real difference is not price, it’s how you think while using the product.
Promptchan’s Chat mode allows users to select a character from its discovery feed or build a custom character with an appearance, personality, voice and backstory. It also provides a Story mode that changes the interaction from text-message-style chat into collaborative scene writing. Switching between Chat and Story clears the existing conversation history, according to Promptchan’s official documentation.
Images can also be generated directly from the current chat scene. The system uses details such as the character’s clothing, location and mood as context for the image. Voice messages and live voice calls are supported and consume Gems.
OurDream places stronger marketing emphasis on conversation history and continuity. Its official pages claim that details and shared events remain available across days and weeks through a large context window. They also say character personality, appearance, voice and memory remain attached when users switch between supported models.
These are meaningful product specifications, but they should not be rewritten as proof that OurDream always remembers more accurately. Context capacity and accurate recall are related but different.
A chatbot can store a long conversation and still misunderstand, overlook or incorrectly reconstruct a detail.
A large memory window increases the opportunity for continuity; it does not guarantee correct memory.
OurDream has the more companion-centred architecture and therefore appears better suited to extended roleplay with one character.
Promptchan is more suitable for users who want to move between character chat, story writing and visual creation without making long-term relationship continuity the central purpose.
Both services support custom AI characters, but access and implementation differ.
Promptchan lets users select an existing community character or create one by defining appearance, personality, voice and backstory. However, its current pricing page places custom-character creation inside the $33.99-per-month Pro plan rather than the cheaper Plus or Premium tiers.
OurDream advertises the first character as free with no credit card required. Its character system is built around a plain-language description rather than requiring users to complete a long multi-step form. Paid plans unlock additional access, longer memory and higher generation limits.
The two systems appear to solve consistency differently.
Promptchan provides controls such as pose, framing, negative prompting, cloning and remixing. These tools help users manually guide subsequent visual generations.
OurDream says the character’s identity remains attached across models, images and conversations. This attempts to reduce how often users need to rebuild the same identity manually.
Promptchan gives the user more tools to reproduce a character. OurDream tries to make the character itself the persistent unit of the product.
Promptchan can animate generated images or produce video from text. Full-length video and video extension are included in its Pro plan. Pro also unlocks live AI voice calling, while individual voice messages and calls consume Gems.
OurDream offers image-to-video generation with advertised five- and ten-second clips, 1080p output and voice-sync capabilities. Its official Dreamcoin guide also describes longer standard video generation of up to 60 seconds, with the price increasing according to duration.
OurDream charges:
Promptchan does not publish the same detailed action-by-action video-cost table on its public pricing page. It states that generations use Gems and that Pro includes 800 Gems plus unlimited “casual generations.”
The phrase “unlimited casual generations” should not be interpreted as every action being unlimited. Promptchan still uses Gems for specified activities and reserves advanced video features for Pro.
Promptchan is attractive for users who want visual creation controls and the ability to extend videos on its highest plan.
OurDream provides more public detail about the cost of individual video, audio and enhancement actions.
Instead of listing features, let’s talk about what each tool does better in practice.
Promptchan is clearly stronger when it comes to visuals. The generation speed, the variety of styles, and the community-driven prompts make it feel like a playground for experimentation.
You don’t need to think much, you just create.
OurDream, on the other hand, feels stronger in conversation. The presence of memory, personality shaping, and continuity changes how you interact with it.
You’re not just generating content, you’re building something over time.
That difference shows clearly when you compare them side by side:
| Strength Area | Better Tool |
| Image generation | Promptchan |
| Chat depth | OurDream |
| Memory | OurDream |
| Speed | Promptchan |
| Long-term engagement | OurDream |
The previous version of this article described Promptchan as credit-based and OurDream as subscription-based.
That distinction is inaccurate.
Promptchan sells monthly subscriptions that include Gems. OurDream sells monthly or annual subscriptions that include Dreamcoins. Both platforms then use those internal currencies for selected actions.
| Promptchan plan | Monthly price | Included allowance | Important access |
| Free | $0 | Daily free Gems | Images, chat and community browsing |
| Plus | $14.99 | 100 Gems | High-quality creation and basic styles |
| Premium | $23.99 | 400 Gems | Additional styles and features |
| Pro | $33.99 | 800 Gems plus unlimited casual generations | Custom characters, voice calls, maximum quality and full-length video |
Promptchan also gives paid subscribers a 50% discount when purchasing additional Gems. Voice messages currently cost one Gem, while a voice call costs two Gems according to its pricing page. Promotional prices may appear at checkout.
| OurDream plan | Billing amount | Included allowance |
| Monthly | $19.99 each month | 1,000 Dreamcoins initially and each month |
| Annual | $119.88 upfront | 2,000 Dreamcoins initially, then 1,000 each month |
The annual plan equals $9.99 per month but is charged as one $119.88 payment. It should not be described as a monthly $9.99 charge.
Standard subscriber chat is listed as consuming zero Dreamcoins, although the Genius and Lively Genius models cost one Dreamcoin per response. Media generation, premium narration, calls and videos use additional Dreamcoins. Free-user chat costs one Dreamcoin per message.
This is one of the most important sections.
When users complain, they reveal what the tool is trying to do but failing at.
Promptchan users mostly complain about:
pricing inconsistency
limited chat depth

This suggests the tool is strong in creation but weaker in interaction.
OurDream users complain about:
memory issues
bugs
inconsistency in behavior

This suggests the tool is trying to deliver a deeper experience, but struggles to maintain it perfectly.
That’s a completely different category of problem.
| Category | Promptchan AI | OurDream AI |
| Overall Experience | 7.8 / 10 | 8.2 / 10 |
| Visual Output | 9 / 10 | 8 / 10 |
| Interaction Quality | 6.5 / 10 | 8.5 / 10 |
| Consistency | 6 / 10 | 7.5 / 10 |
| Long-Term Value | 7 / 10 | 8 / 10 |
Promptchan offers stronger visible controls for image creation, including negative prompts, styles, pose control, cloning and remixing. It has a large community gallery, native mobile availability and a free daily Gem allowance. Its combination of image, chat, story, voice and video features is particularly attractive to users who enjoy switching between creation modes.
The complete feature set requires the $33.99 Pro plan. Lower plans exclude custom characters, full-length video, maximum-quality creation and live voice calling. Gem consumption can also make actual monthly costs less predictable than the headline subscription price.
OurDream places the character at the centre of chat, image, video and voice interactions. Its annual subscription has a lower effective monthly price, and standard subscriber chat does not normally consume Dreamcoins. It also publishes comparatively detailed documentation on credit costs, privacy and moderation.
OurDream does not offer a standalone mobile app. Multimedia actions can consume the monthly Dreamcoin allowance rapidly, particularly video generation and voice calls. Claims about long-term memory and character-locked identity are primarily company claims and should not be treated as independently verified accuracy results.
Your priority is generating many different character images, experimenting with visual styles, remixing public creations or controlling poses and composition.
Promptchan is also the better fit when native iOS or Android access matters.
Your priority is maintaining one character across longer chats, images, video and voice interactions.
OurDream is also more attractive when you expect to send many standard text messages and prefer a lower effective annual subscription price.
You need guaranteed character consistency, predictable commercial production costs, confidential media handling or independently verified conversational memory.
Both services provide free entry points, so the safest approach is to test the exact workflow you plan to use before purchasing a long subscription.
Promptchan AI and OurDream AI are no longer separated by a simple feature checklist.
Both provide character creation, adult roleplay, image generation, video and voice. Both also use subscriptions combined with internal credits.
The decisive difference is their centre of gravity.
Promptchan AI is better for users who see the character as something to create. OurDream AI is better for users who see the character as someone to continue interacting with.
Promptchan’s strength lies in visual exploration, community remixing, generation controls and native mobile availability. The platform becomes considerably more capable on Pro, but that raises its complete monthly cost to $33.99.
OurDream’s strength lies in companion continuity, character-centred media and standard subscriber chat that usually does not consume Dreamcoins. Its annual price is competitive, although video and voice activity can use the monthly credit allocation quickly.
Choose Promptchan AI for image-first creation, visual experimentation and mobile access.
Choose OurDream AI for chat-first roleplay, persistent characters and companion-centred multimedia.
Neither should receive a universal numerical score without a documented, repeatable hands-on test.
