Doublelist is a personals platform for casual hookups and dating, primarily used in the U.S. It emphasizes user privacy and discretion, offering both free and paid subscriptions. Users can post and respond to ads in various categories, catering to diverse sexual orientations and preferences.
Doublelist was created in March 2018 as a response to the shutdown of Craigslist's personals section, which was a result of the FOSTA-SESTA laws. These laws made websites liable for user-posted ads related to sex work, leading many platforms to close their personals sections to avoid legal issues. Doublelist aims to fill this gap by providing a space where people can post personal ads for casual encounters, dating, and other connections
Doublelist places a strong emphasis on user privacy and security. Measures include:
Strong privacy measures, including age verification and data management options.
Simple and straightforward interface
Free access to browse and post ads
Allows more open-ended postings compared to structured dating apps
Reports of spam or fake profiles
Inconsistent moderation quality depending on region
Limited customer support visibility
Fewer safety and verification features compared to mainstream dating platforms

This is the part I hate. Some ads are so obviously sketchy that you wonder how they're still up. Telegram links, people asking for money, weird copied messages, gets tiring pretty fast.

My Doublelist experience sits somewhere in the middle. I like that it brings back the personal-ad format and gives adults a more open way to connect locally. The categories make browsing easier, and the site does not feel as exhausting as swipe apps. But the real-world experience depends heavily on your area and your ability to screen people. In my city, some posts led to normal conversations, while others felt fake or went nowhere. I would not call it a scam, but I also would not call it effortless. It works best when you keep expectations realistic, protect your privacy, and take your time.

Doublelist promotes privacy and discretion, which I appreciate, but that same anonymity also made me cautious. I never felt fully sure who I was talking to, and I had to constantly watch for fake profiles, spammy replies, and people trying to move the conversation too quickly. The platform is simple, but it does not feel as controlled or verified as I would like for meeting strangers online. I also found the support side underwhelming when I needed clarity about account and messaging issues. It is not unusable, but I would not recommend it to someone new to online personals unless they already know how to spot red flags.

I spent weeks on this site hoping to meet someone real, but most of the responses I got seemed automated. There are a lot of fake profiles, and it’s difficult to tell who is real. Even when I did find someone genuine, they never followed through on meeting up. It’s frustrating to sort through all the nonsense just to get a few decent replies.

I joined Doublelist when it first started, and it was great back then. Now, it feels like it’s overrun with scammers and fake ads. Almost every message I get is either someone asking for money or redirecting me to another website. I reported several suspicious users, but nothing ever gets done about them. The lack of moderation has completely ruined it.
